API/AYP
Rancho Alamitos High School has attained an API of 740! API stands
for Academic Performance Index and its purpose is to measure the
academic performance and growth of students. API is the cornerstone of
California's Public Schools Accountability Act of 1999. It is a scale that
ranges from a low of 200 to a high of 1,000. A school's score on the API
is an indicator of its performance level. The statewide API performance target for all schools is
800. Rancho Alamitos is rapidly moving towards this target and looks forward to surpassing 800
in the upcoming years!
A school's API is measured by students' performance on the California Standards Tests (CST) in
English-language arts, mathematics, history, and science as well as their performance on the
California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE). For more information on measurement of
API visit the California Department of Education website at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/
In the spring of 1999 Rancho Alamitos received its first API score of 560. Our API has
increased every year, and has increased by a total of 180 points over the past ten years. Follow
