ACADEMIC DISHONESTY

Using improper assistance to complete assigned work and/or tests.

First offense

Referral to assistant principal.  Saturday school assigned. Loss of points and credit on the assignment.  Parent contact.  Student and parent sign acknowledgment of responsibility.

Second offense

Referral to assistant principal.  Suspension from school.  Loss of points and credit on the assignment.  Student/parent conference with teacher, administrator, and counselor. 

Third and subsequent offenses

Referral to assistant principal.  Student dropped with an F grade for the semester.  Student/parent conference with teacher, administrator, and counselor. 

CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE/DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, ALCOHOL

Possessed, used, sold, furnished, or been under the influence of a controlled substance, alcoholic beverage, or intoxicant.

Possession, use and/or under the influence of alcoholic beverages or controlled substances.

Suspension, counseling referral, parent contact/conference, police involvement as necessary, GGUSD Discipline Committee referral as necessary.

Possession or sale of drug paraphernalia.

Suspension, counseling referral, parent contact/conference, police involvement as necessary, Discipline Committee referral

DEFIANCE OF STAFF MEMBER

Failure to comply with directives provided by a school official, teacher, campus aide, or any other adult in a position of authority.  This also includes failure to give proper name or to show identification. 

First offense

Saturday School, or suspension, and parent contact.

Repeated offenses

Suspension and/or referral to GGUSD Discipline Committee and parent contact

ELECTRONIC DEVICES and CELL PHONES

Board of Education policy (5156) prohibits the display, activation, and use of electronic devices (cell phones, iPods, MP3 players, cameras, radios, CD/DVD, and video game players) while on school grounds.  The school assumes no liability for lost, stolen or damaged devices, even after it is confiscated.  The administration will not investigate lost or stolen devices.

Item confiscated. Referral to assistant principal.  Administrator determines when and how the items are to be returned.  Parent pick up may be required.


EXPLOSIVE and INCENDIARY MATERIALS

Possessed, sold, or otherwise furnished an explosive device or other dangerous object, including firecrackers

Possession of lighters, matches, or explosive material.

Detention, Saturday school, or suspension, parent contact/conference.  Referral to GGUSD Discipline Committee, police and/or fire department as necessary.


FAILURE TO SERVE DETENTION or SATURDAY SCHOOL

Any offense

Loss of senior privilege, Saturday school, suspension, parent contact/conference.

FIGHTING or AIDING/ABETING in the INFLICTION of PHYSICAL INJURY

Caused, attempted, or threatened to cause physical injury to another person.  This may include knowingly assisting, setting up or instigating a fight, participating as a look-out, back-up or participant, or distracting/preventing adults from responding. 

First offense

1-5 day suspension, parent contact or conference, referral to GGUSD Discipline Committee and/or police as necessary.

Additional offenses

5-day suspension, parent conference, referral to Discipline Committee, police contact

FORGED NOTE or SCHOOL DOCUMENTS

INTERNET MISUSE

Refer to the RAHS Student Internet Contract for appropriate use of Internet resources.

Any offense

Referral to administrator, loss of Internet privilege

MISCONDUCT, DISTURBANCE, DISRESPECT

Disrupting school activities or defying the valid authority of supervisors, teachers, administrators, school officials, or other school personnel engaged in the performance of their duties.

Any offense

Detention, Saturday school, suspension, discipline contract, parent contact /conference.

PHYSICAL/VERBAL/SEXUAL THREAT AND/OR HARASSMENT

Intentionally engaged in harassment, threats, or intimidation against a student or school employee or their property that creates an intimidating or hostile educational environment. 

Towards a student

Detention, Saturday School and/or suspension.  Counseling referral as necessary, referral to Discipline Committee and/or police as necessary

Towards a staff member or a member’s property

Suspension, removal from class if applicable, referral to GGUSD Discipline Committee and/or police as necessary.

PROFANITY, OBSCENITY, VULGARITY

Non-directed

Detention, Saturday School, parent contact

Directed at a peer

Detention, Saturday School and/or suspension, parent contact.

Directed at a staff member.

Detention, Saturday School and/or suspension.  Referral to GGUSD Discipline Committee and/or police as necessary.

ROBBERY or EXTORTION

Committed or attempted to commit a robbery or extortion

Suspension, referral to Discipline Committee, parent contact and police contact as necessary.

SKATEBOARDS, RAZORS, SKATES, SKATE SHOES, BICYCLES

Riding on campus

Confiscated and referral to assistant principal.  Item returned at the discretion of the administrator.  Parent may be required to pick up the item.

SMOKING or CHEWING TOBACCO

Possessed or used tobacco, or any products containing tobacco or nicotine, including cigarettes, cigars, and chewing tobacco.

First Offense

Saturday School, suspension, and parent contact.

Additional Offense

Saturday School, suspension, parent contact.  Referral to Discipline Committee.

THEFT,  DESTRUCTION of PROPERTY, VANDALISM, GRAFFITI

Caused or attempted to cause damage to school property or private property, including other district schools.  Theft of school or personal property or possession of stolen school or personal property.

Any offense

Detention, Saturday school, or suspension and parent contact/conference.  Referral to GGUSD Discipline Committee and/or police/fire as necessary. Restitution.

TRUANCY

Any truancy period  or full day

Detention, Saturday school, and parent contact.

Repeated period absences

Detention, Saturday school, parent conference, attendance contract, Referral to

Student Attendance Review Board, consequences are progressive with each violation

Leaving class without permission.

Detention, Saturday school, and parent contact.

Leaving campus without a pass

Saturday school and parent contact

UNAUTHORIZED POSSESSION or USE of SCHOOL DOCUMENTS

Any Offense

Detention, Saturday school, suspension, drop with “F” grade, parent contact.

UNSAFE, RECKLESS DRIVING on CAMPUS or UNAUTHORIZED PARKING

Any Offense

Referral to assistant principal, detention, Saturday School, possible loss of opportunity to bring vehicle onto campus.  Parent contact/conference.  Police action as necessary,

WEAPON or REPLICA WEAPON

Possessed, sold, or furnished any firearm, knife, explosive, or other dangerous object (including laser pointers).  A weapon is defined as an object capable of inflicting substantial bodily damage. 

Any Offense

Suspension, referral to Discipline Committee, police action.  Parent conference

 

Mandatory Expulsion Offenses

California law requires that students committing any of these offenses be expelled from the school district for up to one year.

Brandishing a knife at another person

Committing or attempting a sexual assault

Possession of an explosive

Unlawfully selling a controlled substance

Assault or battery upon a school employee
